Best paper awards

As in the last years we are delighted to announce that Barclays Global Investors, Goldman & Sachs Asset Management, and Inquire UK and Inquire Europe has again awarded a number of prizes for outstanding papers. In addition, Commonfund has awarded a prize for the best paper of the Symposium: Foundation and Endowment Asset Management.
Barclays Global Investors Prizes
Barclays Global Investors has again awarded the following prizes for three papers:
  • 5,000 EUR for the best paper presented at the Symposium
  • 5,000 EUR for the best finance paper presented at the conference
  • 5,000 EUR for the best paper by a current or recent Ph.D. candidate
The prizes have been awarded by a committee chaired by Prof. William Goetzmann (Yale University).
* EFA 2005 winners / Best Conference Paper: 'All that Glitters: The Effect of Attention and News on the Buying Behavior of Individual and Institutional Investors' -- by Brad M. Barber (University of California at Davis) and Terrance Odean (University of California at Berkeley)
* EFA 2005 winners / Best Symposium Paper on Corporate Governance in Emerging Markets: 'Diversification and Ownership Concentration' -- by Bruno Parigi (University of Padua) and Loriana Pelizzon (University of Venice)
* EFA 2005 winner / Best Paper by a Ph.D. student: 'Do Investors Reinvest Dividends and Tender Offer Proceeds?' -- by Elias Rantapuska (Helsinki School of Economics)
2005 GSAM Quant Best Paper Prize
The author(s) of the best paper in the Review of Finance have been awarded the GSAM Quant Best Paper Prize, generously funded by the Goldman Sachs Asset Management quantitative teams for the current year and for several years to come. The prize consists of 5,000 EUR and a memento for each co-author. The best paper was chosen among the papers published or forthcoming as of the end of July 2005 by a vote of the entire editorial board of the journal.
* EFA 2005 winners: Information Acquisition in a Limit Order Market' -- by Christine Parlour (Carnegie Mellon University), Ronald Goettler (Carnegie Mellon University) and Uday Rajan (University of Michigan - Ann Arbor)
Commonfund Award for the Best Paper in the Symposium on Foundation and Endowment Asset Management
Commonfund has agreed to award a prize for the best paper of the Symposium: Foundation and Endowment Asset Management. The prize consists of 5,000 EUR and a memento for each co-author.

Inquire Best Doctoral Tutorial Paper Prize
We are pleased to announce that Inquire UK and Inquire Europe have sponsored a prize for Best Doctoral Tutorial Paper.
* EFA 2005 winner: 'Difference in Interim Performance and Risk Taking' -- by Dmitry Makarov (London Business School)
